Welcome to the African World Festival. This year our festival is filled with great delights - wonderful performances, free events, and lots of fun - as well as workshops, master classes and informative demonstrations.
It is a special year for us, one in which we have focused on the African World Festival mission not only to bring nationally and internationally renowned artists into our midst, but to give back to the community through free events and community partnerships designed to showcase local artists.
The African World Festival is set to enrapture festival lovers once again. Our venue will leave you fascinated, captivated and enthralled. With performances ranging from classic to contemporary, traditional to avant-garde, each act will inspire you to greater heights.
African World Festival This three-day celebration of African culture at Hart Plaza features music, live entertainment, children's activities, an artisans' market and a wide variety of ethnic cuisine. Some 1.2 million people attend, so expect some crowds.
Highlights include the Taste of Africa Pavilion, plenty of live entertainment, strolling plaza performances, an African Family Village and the Diaspora Marketplace.
The event is sponsored by the Charles H Wright Museum of African American History. This gigantic concrete expanse at the foot of Woodward Ave stretches from Jefferson Ave to the Detroit River.
